Disruptions, progress and convertible bonds: a long passion

Last month, we analysed in these pages ("Convertible bonds and disruption: married at first sight!", 21/04/22) the criteria that allow for disruption (innovation/demand/regulatory support) and we proposed two recent emblematic illustrations, genome sequencing and electric vehicles. Companies in these two sectors had used convertible bonds to finance their development.

The use of convertible bonds to finance major transformations is not new - It started almost two centuries ago - and we will see with a few examples from the past and the present that these ruptures are also synonymous with progress.
